Google earth and history

Goggle has added historic map overlays to its free interactive on line globe of the world to provide views of how places have changed with time. Google earth is sensitive of the interest, Google Earth is generating specially in the field of education. Students of history, Geography and others. Engineers of Google Earth have digitized one of the largest US map collections and integrated the information into its program, which allows the users to navigate through the entire planet to have closer look.

The collection of David Ramsey Historical Maps dated from 1680 to 1892 is now digitized and the collection also includes Cassini's Globe of 1790; Africa in 1787, and a map of Asia from 1710 to the present day. Wow that's the remarkable aspect of technology huh? It is wonderful to see the cutting edge technology of Google Earth introduce people to the geographic history of our world in a new and innovative way. A national Geography quiz featuring the African continent has been added by Google Earth.

A click of the mouse is all it takes, in today's world to browse through the planet today and Google Earth is the pioneer behind this amazing feat. There have been over 100 million downloads of the Google Earth program to computers since it was launched in June of 2005.

Here are some features that enhance the flexibility of the users

Time Animation - Adding the 4th dimension to GE 4 was my favorite new feature added to the program this year. The innovative applications already developed are just a taste of what is to come. See the Blue Marble time animation or the animation of building growth in London.

Sktech Up and Textures with 3D models - Google made a free version of Sketch Up available which integrates with Google Earth. And, with the release of the GE 4 beta supported 3D models with textures. Textures provide the ability to add photo-realism to 3D models. And GE 4 supports a new standard for 3D model file formats called Collada.

Enhanced Network Links - Network links are like live updating URL links to other servers while viewing GE content. Google has wisely continued to refine the performance and functionality of one of their most powerful features for GE. This has enabled things like live tracking of airplane flights, automatically updating global weather.

Support for Mac/Linux/Windows - The fact that Google supports GE on Windows, Mac, and Linux is fantastic. No other virtual globe in 2006 supports all these platforms.

Google Earth 5- While many new features were introduced as part of the GE 5, one thing I would like to point out is that GE 5introduced a consistent look and feel between the different platforms (Mac/Windows/Linux). This was a smart move, and is one of the better features introduced this year by itself.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
