How Google Earth’s KML format works?

Google Earth is a 3-Dimensional mapping software application that covers the whole mother planet and it can be loaded free of cost in its essential version fromGoogle.com. The important disadvantage of the basic version is that it does not support the straight export and import of the Global Positioning System (GPS) devices and the imageries of the mountains of the French are not also of high resolution.

In order to Ski touring the routes Google applied the Keyhole Markup language means KML in order to explain the waypoints and tracks. The Californian Company Keyhole originally enhanced Google Earth until it was buying by Google in 2004. KML is a familiar format and is understood by an Open Source Program which is known as GPSBabel. Using GPSBabel it will be able to write and read tracks and waypoints to various general GPS transceivers and to formats utilized by other digital mapping systems like French IGNRando.

Google Earth is now decided to start creating walking, mountain biking and skiing routes available in KML set-up from PisteHors.com and you cal also be able to add routes. Wherever it is possible Google Earth will record certain routes with the help of using GPS. Google Earth is currently using tiny Garmin Geko 201 but the drawback of it is that this GPS are tiny AAA size batteries.

GPSBabel HOWto is the section where some general data for transferring to and from digital mapping and GPS folder arrangement to Google Earth’s KML format. GPSBabel can also bring in straight away from your GPS. For instance, this line examines every track data from a garmin GPS unit on the com2 serial port and produces the tracks as Google KML inside a folder known as vtt.kml. You might have a way in IGNRando format. There are also commands in order to create a KML file. This will take the IGNRando folder found in the “Randonnes” index called route.rdn and will produce a KML folder.

In order to change the KML into an IGNRando route there is graphical edition of GPSBabel but it do not give admission to all of the alternatives described above. It is probable to take out the tracks and waypoints from the KML folders in order to load into your digital mapping program or GPS receiver. For instance, to remove the second track from a KML folder to IGNRando format runs this command. The next trouble is how to organize routes for loading you can do it as all the waypoints and routes connected to a summit should be preserved in a single file. This gives the users an impression of the numerous possibilities.

Waypoints should contain the helpful data such as refuge, passes, summits and the starting points can present detailed data such as various of beds in a refuge and connection to photos and route data on PisteHors.com or somewhere else. You cab be also able to send the waypoints and tracks any in one of the GPS set-ups unstated by GPSBabel or straightly in Google Earth KML format.
