Kids Special Google Earth

Google Earth is satellite imagery based graphical software acquired by Google in 2004. Developed by Keyhole Inc. it was previously known as ‘Earth Viewer’. In 2005 google christened the software as ‘Google Earth’. Since its launch the company has reached new heights. Google Earth covers nearly the whole planet with the exception of some islands.

Google is used by a variety of people from different backgrounds like students, teachers, working professionals, real estate agents and geologists to name a few. Various types of industries like real estate companies travel and hospitality industries also use it.

Google Earth is special, especially for kids. For the young kids, Google Earth symbolizes a whole new wide world for them waiting to be explored. Google Earth can prove to be of great importance for the kids. It will help them explore the world and to satisfy their inquisitiveness about things. It lets them think global and imagine the earth as one wide bloc rather than viewing each nation separately.

Google Earth offers various facilities for kids and students in general and this is even more evident in the Geography classroom. Many schools all over the world have installed Google Earth and they are seeing the benefits of the move. Students while studying History or Geography can literally ‘fly’ to the place they are studying about. This will make studies more proactive. Moreover this technique will be especially useful for visual learning students.

When you study about the Grand Canyon or the Leaning Tower of Pisa or even the French Revolution, you can just type in those places on Google Earth and virtually fly there within no time. This is a great technique to get kids interested in studying the two subjects. Besides History and Geography Google Earth can also prove to be very useful while studying about anthropology, the growth of cities and evolution of mankind.

Google along with Norad have launched since 2005, a Santa tracker. Available from Christmas Eve, seen at many places in the world, it is a fun way for kids to track their favorite Santa Claus. Google Earth shows Santa in 3D and allows kids to see how he reaches to the corners of the world to deliver presents. Kids even can track Santa’s village. The village is modeled as a fun village with polar bears and reindeer all around. The village available in 3D contains a brightly cored gay village where all the people are happy, abode of Santa Claus. It will be a visual treat for your kids.

Google Earth in partnership with ESA has provided breathtaking images of our world. Those who have access to a computer and Internet can easily view these majestic photos and stare at it in awe. Till date we there are 100 million viewers most of them kids. The ESA pictures are divided into 2 sections: ‘Earth beauty seen from space’ and ‘Phenomena seen from space’. Google Earth is very creative and useful for your child’s future and development.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
