Using time stamps in Google Earth

Every feature in KML has time information connected with it. Time data has effect of limiting the visibility of the data set to a particular period or point in time. The time slider in Google Earth interface supports the divisions of the information that are visible even though the entire information set obtained when the KML is downloaded. KML has two time basics derived from Time Primitive i.e. time stamp and time span. Time stamp normally linked with a Point placemark. Showing the place mark icon for a moment at every location alongside a way has the effect of animating the placemarks. This system is particularly helpful in forming KML displays of information imported from a GPS tracking device. Time stamps for the provided data have to use at normally gaps to get the best result of it.

Time stamps are regularly used for light weighted information sets, which is displayed in numerous places for instances placemark moving alongside a path. In cases like these functions are regularly in view at the same time as they are displayed in various places at different times. The Google Earth interface of the user’s time slider contains a time window that chooses a slice of the time slider and moves from starting to end of the period. By using such method, the German European School Singapore marked a whale shark, named it as Schroeder with a GPS mechanism, tracked the shark’s travel way from side to side the Indian Ocean to continent of Africa for more than months. Users can view all this interesting tracking of Schroeder’s growth by using KML folder that is posted on research group’s website.

Users will be able to view the red path that displays Schroeder’s travels till he lost the contact with the team with the help of KML file. The yellow dots are the placemarks animated alongside the way according to the timeline displayed on the top of the screen. The blue arrows displayed on the screen shows the path of the wave patterns. This instance have the point placemark that includes the Timestamp element. The red line string and the blue ground overlay do not have the time elements connected with them.

With the help of time span element, you can show the image overlays and polygons that change immediately from one to the next and can state the starting and ending of a period with the Time span object. The method is normally utilized to display the changes in images and polygons like ground overlays. For instance, in order to display the diminishing path of glaciers, extent of logging hard works more than years and the spread of volcanic ash users can make use of this time span method. Time span element are used if a single feature is in view at a given period and the user want an immediate transition from one image to the other one. Users should confirm the Time spans are contiguous and do not go beyond. The Google Earth user interface time slider contains a pointer that goes easily along side the period slider from the starting to the end period for the information sets with the Time spans.
