Some Educational KML’s
Aquatic Diversity of the Philippines
The academy Curators, Terry Gosliner and Garry Willaims are the people behind this KML. They have been diving in the Philippines coral Reefs since 1992. During all these years, they have surveyed and captured the images of the great diversity present over there.Their research supports that the Verde Island passage, which is situated in the northern part of Philippines, has the corral reefs that have the greatest diversity in the world. The exact locations where they have dived and explored are shown as placemarks in Google Earth. You can click on these placemarks to know more about the species of aquatic animals and plants present over here.
Rising Sea Level Animation
This KML highlights the devastating effects of global warming which is responsible for rising sea levels. If the current global warming continues, a large amount of land is going to be submerged under water in the near future. It might be possible that your own house might be submerged under water in the future.
You can use this KML as a time slider to know which places are going to be submerged under water in the future. For using this KML you just need to turn on the terrain view from the Layers, section of Google Earth client. If you want added effect, you can also turn on the 3D buildings layer as well.
Utilizing KML for Thematic Mapping
The need of geo-browsers has increased greatly during the last only some years. Thematic mapping has been available for cartography, but Google Earth does not focus on cartography. Instead it examines how the Keyhole Markup Language i.e. KML can be useful for thematic mapping. It provides a number of visualizations, which show the current possibilities that can be used for developing proportional symbol maps, choropleth maps, chart maps, prism maps and animated maps.
Coral Reef Monitoring
The 284,000 square kilometers of coral reefs that are present under oceans are the places having the greatest diversity on earth. Thousands of species of plants and animals live in these reefs. However, the reefs are in danger today due to global warming, rising population and fishing.
With the Coral Reef Monitoring KML of Google Earth, you can view the current state of several coral reefs around the world. You can study the distribution and properties of these coral reefs and the current damage that they are undergoing.
Emergent Models of Earth’s Crustal Structure
This is a KML, which provides you visualizations developed using SketchUp Collada models along with Google Earth’s timespan tags. They show the cross sections of earths crust and mantel. You can drag the time slider to see how changes have taken place gradually in the earths crust and mantle.
The Californian Academy of Sciences Ocean Exhibits Quiz
If you want to know more about the ocean exhibits at the California Academy of Sciences, then this KML is going to be very useful to you. You can test your knowledge with this quiz and thus improve it. This is a KML specially developed for students and is going to be very useful to them.
