Downloading NASA World Wind
Use of NASA World Wind for general purpose will not require the source code, it is required only by developers.
NASA World Wind can be downloaded from its official website. As it is a free product you do not have to pay anything for it. The download is simple and it is quick as well. NASA World Wind is available a full install or even as an update for the previous versions. However for downloading and installing NASA World Wind on your computer it should have the minimum configuration necessary because NASA World Wind is a large program and it has a great demand of computer resources.
System requirements
a)Your computer should either have windows 2000, or 2003, or XP, or vista as an operating system. (Note that there are some additional requirements for compatibility. ) NASA World Wind currently is designed to work on windows only and is at this moment not compatible with Linux or Macintosh. (Note: if you have these systems on your computer you can check with World Wind Java SDK.)
b)Your computer should have a graphics card installed. Note for this as well there are some compatibility requirements.)
c)An internet connection is the basic requirement for using NASA World Wind.
Software requirements
Your computer should have the software like Microsoft .NET 2.0 and Microsoft Managed Directx 9.0c(October 2005).
When you try to download NASA World Wind, the installer should be able to detect these software on your computer only then it can proceed and do the installation process. However if it does not detect these software it can guide you to install these by default.Minimum configuration
The following are the minimum configuration requirements.
a)Your computer should have a CPU working at 500 MHz or more.
b)It should have a RAM of 128 MB and,
c)It should have a disk space of 500MB. Note that NASA World Winds cache size, by default, is 2GB. Therefore in this case you need to reduce the size of your cache.
However these are just minimum system requirements, not the optimum ones. Therefore with this configuration the performance that you will get also would not be the optimum one. If you want optimum performance and functionality your computer should the following recommended configuration.
Recommended configuration
a)The computer should have a CPU working at, at least 1.4 GHz.
b)The random access memory should be at least 256 MB.
c)It should have a cable, DSL, or some faster connection.
d)Moreover it should have a minimum 3GB free disk space. This extra CPU and GPU resources is required mainly for the features like atmospheric scattering, sun shading, etc.
if you have a computer satisfying all the above mentioned requirements and you want to download NASA World Wind, go to the download section of NASA World Wind and there just click on the download option.
You just need to download the full version of NASA World Wind. The source code is required only by the developers and it is available as an additional download for the full install. If you wan to use NASA World Wind for general purpose only, you won’t require it and therefore you just need to download the full install.
However if you want to download the source code as well, after the completion of downloading full install, just copy the Data directory from the full install directory to your source directory.
