The features of NASA World Wind
Country and state (only for USA) borders
When you are viewing the maps at a higher resolution, the borders are lesser precise and as you would zoom in, they would become more and more clear.
The important use of these borders that the NASA World Wind provides that, it displays them in combination with the 3D imagery. Therefore, you can study the borders and the geographical features in comparison with one another. This may also tell you about the role, if any, of the geographical features in deciding of the borders.
Place names:
The imagery of the world without the names would have been of not use. However, the NASA World Wind does provide the names of the different places on the maps. These may be the countries cities, capitals, towns and the names of the important historical sites. For some of the cities it also provides the names of the different areas located in them.
Even though the NASA World Wind provides a large number of names that refer to the different places in the field of view, there is never an overcrowding on the screen. The NASA World Wind systematically displays the names. When you are viewing the maps at a greater zoom level, it would show only the names of the larger and important locations as countries, or cities. When you zoom in at some particular point, the further names start appearing for each level you zoom in. Thus, you find the names for almost all the locations in the world. Then it does not mater even if it is small place. Because of this, it has become possible for the NASA World Wind to provide names of the roads and other landmarks in the city.
The Visual tools:
These are the tools, which provide you the latitude, longitude and coordinate data. This data is directly represented on the globe and therefore you can use it to study the different places with reference of their scientific location. They can be used with any of the different views that the NASA World Wind provides. They can be used for the students or the people for personal as well as commercial use.
You can choose whether you wish to view them or not.
Landmark Set
The NASA World Wind has a set of the 3D models of the different important landmarks. In addition to this, it can display them directly on the maps. Therefore, you can virtually view these places just sitting on your computer. These images feature the real and colored photographs and they are three-dimensional ones.
However, if some landmark is not included in this feature, you can still view it with the MODIS. However, the resolution for landmark set is higher than that for MODIS.
These are only some of the features of the NASA World Wind. However, their availability may vary according to the place. Therefore, you should check whether they are available for your region or not.
